Soy Coconut Wax
What is Soy Coconut Wax?
Soy Coconut wax is a mixture of soy wax and coconut wax. Many people these days are looking for wax candles and wax melts that are more natural than the traditional paraffin alternative. Although paraffin has a great hot throw (the scent travelling through the room), it is toxic and not a great idea to be breathing in.
Natural waxes have gotten mixed reviews as they do not typically have as great a hot throw as paraffin candles and may melt a bit faster, but are much safer to breathe in. Different natural waxes have different densities, melt points, hot throw, etc. That's why soy coconut wax is such a great combination that has grown in popularity.
Why Use Soy Coconut Wax?
Soy wax has a melt point of ~115°F, while coconut wax has a melt point of ~130°F. While this doesn't seem like a huge difference, it significantly helps the candle to slow down burning time just a bit. Coconut wax also traditionally has a better hot throw, so adding in even just a little bit of coconut wax can make your product that much better.
It Can't All Be Good
One of the main complaints of soy coconut wax happens while making the candles. After pouring the candle, as it cools, it has the potential to create air pockets that aren't visible but are under the surface so as you burn it, it burns unevenly and just doesn't create that picture-perfect burn. The soy coconut wax can also crack as it cools, creating a product that is completely usable but not quite as 'pretty' as the traditional paraffin candle.
In The End
Soy Coconut Wax is such a great option for those looking towards a more natural version of their favorite candles. And while there are a few things that can happen to it as it cools, there are ways to prevent these from happening....that's a topic for a different time. Adding in even a small amount of coconut wax can drastically increase your product's use.
